Shooting syndicate help to raise nearly £1,000 for Macmillan Unit

Members of the Lakenheath Shooting Syndicate have helped to raise nearly £1,000 for charity.

During the season, which ran from the last week of October through to February 1, they took part in an event which saw all the shooters donating £20 each for hitting a specific target.

Nearly 50 were hit resulting in a total of £930 being raised which has been donated to the My WiSH Charity which supports the work of the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.

The funds have been directed towards the Macmillan Ward at the West Suffolk Hospital as some of the members of the syndicate have had loved ones treated at the unit.

Steve Peasey, who lives in Lakenheath, said his mother-in-law was cared for by staff on the unit and the mother of another member of the group is also undergoing treatment.

The shoot took place on the range at Undley, just outside Lakenheath, with up to 40 people, including guests, taking part throughout the season.

The syndicate consists of 15 people which includes shooters and beaters and Steve said they have raised money for charity over the years but decided to put their latest fundraising efforts towards My WiSH.

He said: “We have had a few members who have had family members affected by cancer, so we wanted to raise the money for the cancer unit at the hospital.

“We just wanted to raise the money for a good cause, and we had a few guests come in to take part in the shoot.

“We were originally going to do it for a national charity but we decided that we would keep it local and we were really pleased with the amount we raised.”

Sally Daniels, fundraising manager, said: “Keeping donations local is so important and we can’t thank Steve and the other syndicate members enough. We support cancer patients in so many ways from counselling, HOPE courses and exercise classes to buying equipment and even supporting the children of patients undergoing treatment. This donation will allow us to continue this support and we are truly grateful.”
