Special donation aids charity skydive
A donation in memory of a loved one has allowed My WiSH Charity to put on a charity skydive this June.
The charity team first met with Eileen Hale when she came into their office, which is based in the main corridor of the West Suffolk Hospital. Eileen wanted to donate to thank the hospital for the care shown to her husband, Nigel.
While talking to the team, a hospital staff member popped in to enquire about a skydive and so an idea was formed.
Eileen said: “Nigel had always wanted to do a skydive, but it was something he was never able to do. Using the money in his memory means the charity can raise even more which is just wonderful.”
Sally Daniels, fundraising manager, said: “Sponsorship for events is so important to enable us to raise as much money as possible so we can do even more for the patients and staff at the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust. Having the sponsorship in memory of someone is extra special and Eileen will be joining us on the day to cheer everyone on”.
So far, the charity has 10 skydivers, including a team from the hospital’s stroke unit, booked to take on this thrill-seeking challenge at UK Parachuting in Beccles on Saturday 17th June. They will climb to 13,000 feet before falling at approximately 120mph, descending 5,000 feet in just 40 seconds!
And Eileen will not only be joining the charity on the day but, thanks to health care assistant Tanya Shaw, she will be ensuring that Nigel is involved in a special way.
Eileen said “I have had stones made from Nigel’s ashes which have been put into a necklace. Tanya has kindly agreed to wear this as she does the jump which will be so special and really make me feel like Nigel is part of the whole thing”.
