Christmas shopping event helps to raise £1,000

A Christmas shopping event held at the home of Vikki Fellowes has raised £1,000 for charity.

The money has gone to the My WiSH Charity with it being directed towards the Rainbow Ward at the West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds.

Vikki, who lives in Newmarket and is the wife of racehorse trainer and owner Charlie Fellowes, decided to hold the event after her young son George, now 17 months old, was treated for a bronchial complaint at the unit.

She said she had to take him back and forth to the ward but that the staff had been wonderful and that she knew of people close to her who also had similar experiences at the hospital.

“We had to rely on the people on the ward and they have been so nice and put us at ease,” she said.

Vikki, who has another older son Jack, aged four, said she hoped the fundraising day would become an annual event and that it was great to make the ward the beneficiary adding: “People round here have had babies at the hospital and have had to lean on them quite a bit.”

The event attracted over 100 people and featured some niche, high-quality pop-up shops.

They included Kapara of London which features women and children’s clothing that unites the vibrant colours and patterns of India with the classical shapes and styles of British design; Laurie Lamps, home to big and bold customised table and floor lamps; milliner Jess Collet with an array of bespoke hats; jewellers Cotton & Gems; online boutique business Ozzie and Clementine which sells Parisian clothes and accessories; Lulu P-G, the creator of ikatching cocktail and ottoman trays; as well as ladies selling Christmas gifts and items.

Vikki, who runs a private members club for children in London, said she was delighted with the support given to the day and the many people who made donations to the charity.

Sally Daniels, fundraising manager for My WiSH, attended the day and said “It was so kind of Vikki to open her home up for this event. The items being sold were amazing and everyone was so generous. The day raised an incredible amount and will really make a difference”.
