Help us raise funds to power robot-assisted surgery at West Suffolk Hospital
Currently laparoscopic, sometimes known as ‘keyhole’ surgeries, are performed in the West Suffolk Hospital each year. With your support , many of these patients will benefit from having their operation being performed with the help of surgical robots.
The surgical team still lead the procedure, but the robot, called Versius and made locally in Cambridge by CMR Surgical, allows the surgeon to carry out procedures more precisely, with all the benefits that brings for a patient and hospital staff. This includes faster recovery, shorter hospital admissions, less scar tissue.
The use of robotics also benefits the surgical team, reducing physical strain and modernising surgery, which will help us train and retain the best surgeons.
NHS England predicts that, within a decade, 9 in 10 keyhole surgeries will be performed with the use of robots. We want our patients to benefit from this cutting-edge surgery now.

This advanced technology enhances precision, flexibility and 3D vision across colorectal, upper gastrointestinal, gynaecological and urological surgery, supporting smaller incisions and improved patient outcomes.
The first procedures took place in May and the results have been fantastic. We look forward to increasing our robotic programme in the coming months and attracting the next generation of talented surgeons to our hospital.”
