£860 raised for My WiSH Charity thanks to Numbers For A Cause group
The cancer unit at the West Suffolk Hospital has been given £860 thanks to fundraisers from the Number For A Cause group.
The money has come following a raffle and coffee morning they held at the Southgate Community Centre along with cash from their Facebook group.
Run and operated by Sue and Trevor Giles, who live in Barningham, along with Sue’s daughter Nicola Bevan, from nearby Hepworth, Numbers For A Cause has, over the past three years, raised a total of £12,200 for local charities.
And their latest efforts have been directed towards the cancer unit at the hospital in Bury St Edmunds through the My WiSH Charity.
They run the group on their Facebook site to benefit local charities by organising an online raffle with a variety of prizes on offer.
Every month members of the group, which number up to 700, get to choose a recipient of the funds and the cancer unit came out top.
Sally Daniels, fundraising manager, said, “The group has only recently raised £609 for our Arthrose orthopaedic appeal so we are delighted that they have chosen to support us again. It’s important that the community realise that to support the cancer unit at West Suffolk Hospital they need to support My WiSH just as Sue, Trevor and Nicola have. By supporting locally, they will be enhancing care right on their doorstep which is amazing.”
Trevor said: “We put up a vote as normal and the cancer unit won it.
“We have all been affected with cancer one way or another and it was a good one to go for. I have had cancer twice and we felt that we wanted to keep the fundraising local.
“It’s hard work at times but very rewarding and it (Number For A Cause) has just grown and grown and people seem to love it.
“We thought that it would slow down a bit with money being tight for people, but it hasn’t at the moment.
“If we raise £100 it buys something and every little bit helps. If we can do our little bit to help, then we will.”
