Mum of 12 raises funds for hospital and Down’s Syndrome charities

The parents of 12 children have helped to raise £410 which has been split between the neonatal unit at the West Suffolk Hospital and the Down’s Syndrome Association.

Jenna Jones and her husband Kenny collected the funds through a series of donations to their online Just Giving page following the care she and her new born baby, Hazel, received.

The tiny tot was born just before the end of last year on December 30 and has Down Syndrome.

As it was during the Christmas period the unit gave a series of presents to her other 11 children … Jake (20), Freddie (18), Ellissa (17), Gracie-Mai (14), William (13), Logan (12), Bayley  (11), Cameron (10), Ella (8), Summer (6) and Poppy (2).

And because of the kindness and consideration given to them both along with her husband, a lorry driver instructor, they asked family and friends to support their fundraising initiative.

The money has gone to the My WiSH Charity, which supports the work of the hospital in Bury St Edmunds, with it being directed towards the neonatal unit.

Thirty-nine-year-old Jenna, who lives with her family on the Priors Estate, in Bury St Edmunds, said her and her husband have worked out a finely planned routine to care for their children added to the fact that both Bailey and Cameron suffer from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

She said both her and Kenny, 37, come from large families with her being one of eight and her husband one of five.

Jenna said: “I just wanted to give something back to the hospital for the great care they gave us.

“Hazel still has a few health conditions, but she is fine and the staff at the hospital were amazing and looked after her really, really well.

“While she was in the unit I returned to the maternity ward and had to go back and forth for her feeds but they cared for her so, so well.”

Sally Daniels, fundraising manager, welcomed Hazel and her parents back to the neonatal where staff were keen to see her progress.

Sally said: “It’s always so lovely to bring babies back to the unit.

“Our neonatal staff take such great care of, not only the baby, but the whole family, and they love to see everyone back for an update.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported Jenna and her family with their fundraising.”
