Saying ‘thank you’ to our fundraisers

My WiSH Charity recently hosted a special event to say thank you to its fundraisers, kindly sponsored by Thetford-based Sema Lease, this month at Ashlar House, in Bury St Edmunds.

Sue Smith, head of fundraising, said: “This is our chance to thank our incredibly wonderful donors.

“It’s great to spend a few hours with them, while they’re not fundraising, to hear all about their stories and the reasons behind why they do what they do.

“It’s all about saying thank you – we couldn’t do what we do without them supporting us.”

The annual event allows the charity to showcase how the funds raised are utilised and provides a chance for fundraisers to connect with other like-minded people and share their experiences.

Guests enjoyed tea, coffee and cakes while interacting with members of the charity team, including Sally Daniels, Myra Ferrari, Lucy Proctor and Tanya Fifield.

Kayleigh Waugh, of Walsham-le-Willows, attended after raising thousands for the charity during her daughter Elodie’s two-year battle with the blood condition aplastic anaemia.

In July, Kayleigh organised a free community event to celebrate Elodie’s recovery, raising more than £10,000.

Also present was 93-year-old volunteer Ron Knight, who has been supporting West Suffolk Hospital since 2008 following the death of his wife, Betty.

Ron previously met Her Majesty The Queen in 2019, when he was recognised for his dedication for volunteering and supporting patients.

Sue added: “The event is always such a humbling and emotional experience – there’s always tears.

“It’s the one day on the calendar we all look forward to, just to say thank you.”
