Second image up for grabs for the hospital breast unit

Sarah Nippress is marking 10 years cancer free and to celebrate this she is fundraising for the breast unit at West Suffolk Hospital by raffling off a second piece of photo art called ‘Calm’ in aid of My WiSH Charity who support West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust including the breast unit.

Sarah, who lives in Sudbury, found a lump in her breast when she was just 32 years old. She was referred to the hospital and diagnosed with cancer which led to two operations including a mastectomy.

Sarah is passionate about encouraging others to check themselves regularly and not to be afraid should they feel they need to see a doctor.

She said “The sooner someone finds anything unusual and sees their GP then the sooner treatment can start if needed. It’s so important for both men and women to check themselves regularly”.

She went on to say “I’m ok now and it’s thanks to the amazing staff at the breast unit at the West Suffolk Hospital. They were so kind and caring from start to finish and the cancer unit were amazing when I underwent 16 months’ worth of chemotherapy”.

The art work is part of Sarah’s business, Locked in Photo Art, which was formed during the pandemic. Sarah takes photos and then enhances them digitally to make some stunning scenes. The image now being raffled off is of the Sudbury Water Meadows and a bevy of swans.

Sarah said “The meadows were a place of calm and reflection to me when I was first diagnosed. I would walk the dogs and look at the sky and think ‘is this really happening to me’ which of course it was but it gave me time to think and come to terms with what I was dealing with”.

Sally Daniels, fundraising manager said “Sarah’s art work is stunning and we can’t thank her enough for using her work to raise money for the breast unit. A few years ago, we purchased a Sentimag machine for £25,000 which helps to pin point the first lymph node. This was thanks to donations which continue to allow us to pay £200 for the vials of beads needed so these donations really do make a difference”.
