The Greyhound supports cardiac patients in the community
The Greyhound at Ixworth has completed another year of fundraising for the My WiSH Charity raising £6,005 which the local hospital charity has allocated to the community cardiac team.
Sally Daniels, fundraising manager, said “Once again we have to say a huge thank you to landlords, Colin and Sue Pearce, for their incredible fundraising. To date they have raised almost £46,000 and supported so many areas, they really have made a difference to so many people”.
The money this year has allowed the charity, which supports the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, to buy two portable ECG machines and ten blood pressure monitors.
Colin, landlord of the pub based in Ixworth high street, said “We have been looked after so well by various departments in the hospital and so we like to give something back. My WiSH are great at being able to show us just where our donation is going which is fantastic. And being able to meet the staff who will be using the equipment is great too. Elise was so passionate about her work and the difference the ECG machines will make”.
Sinead Collins, who is the service manager for the cardiac rehabilitation team and Glemsford Surgery, said “The smaller ECG machines are already proving to be invaluable. We had one already which was shared but now that my team has access to three, they’ve been able to see so many more patients. This means patients don’t require multiple appointments, so it saves both staff and patients’ time. And some of these patients are housebound so these home appointments are just so important.”
Sinead continued “The blood pressure machines are also making a difference. They help patients to be aware of their own health. Glemsford Surgery loans the BP monitors to their patients to help them gain more control over what improves their condition as well as what worsens it.”
